Default Greetings

I am a man out of Adelaide South Australia just wanting to make some awesome gongs and I'm hoping you all may have enough know how to guide me in the gong direction. Gonging to want to learn pinching and other swage techniques to hand hammer gongs out of brass sheets, not very interested in cutting them just want to hammer those gongs. Any information on purchasing sheet brass, swage blocks (inside Australia) and the best hammers for this application would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Metal Guys \m/

Default Greetings to Harry

Welcome as another South Aussie, there are about a dozen of us here now.

Do you mean a nipple gong, or one of those Sabian or Paiste (orchestral)type?

Howdy!

May bang some nipples in, unsure. Beginner looking to expand acoustic knowledge of metal and try different things. If possible I'd like to shrink two corners of a square sheet together to create a triangular shape with what I'd imagine as a slightly concave 'rolling hill' shape. Just need a little advice on where to possibly acquire tools for these jobs.

Welcome to AllMetalShaping Harry. Peter Tommasini is your guy for tools. Check out his youtube videos also.

I had a customer who wanted to make custom cymbals out of 'spring bronze'. He sent me some samples and I soon discovered it is hateful stuff to work. I was unable to get much shape in it at all. Don't know anything more about working bronze and don't know if what you are going to be working is similar.

Howdy, cheers for the welcomes. Lots of helpful suggestions so far; feeling more confident in knowing which tools I need to attempt some gongage. I'm goin' stumpin'
