Default Hi from Chester

Hi all,

Well, whilst in college studying engineering in my late teens some of the more fun days were spent in workshop practicals knocking up oil cans, pots and whatever else in tin, making things on the lathes and milling machines and welding etc. before going on to work in engineering workshops, offices and on site until somehow I got a bug for software.

Now I'm a 36 year old software developer it seems most of the practical skills I learned have disappeared and my '74 Mk1 Ford Escort has lying bare shelled and unloved wanting attention for a good 8 or so years but enough is enough..
To this end I'm trying to teach myself a few skills, Mig, sheet metal work and gas welding; David Gardiner's DVD has been something of an eye opener as to what can be achieved with simple tools, skill and patience so I guess I'm hoping that this forum amongst other resources will help me along the way to becoming competent enough to be happy with my hobby work, finish off a job that's well overdue!

No doubt my questions will be simple for a noob is what I am.. please be gentle
