Default Amateur metalshaper from Orange County, California

Hi all, my name is David and I've been interested in metalshaping for quite a while but still just a beginner. I joined the original yahoo group many years ago and have been a lurker ever since .

I run a small business making custom wire harnesses, so metalshaping is actually quite unrelated and can only remain a hobby. Therefore I don't have much of a budget to buy equipment... though I have managed to buy a few pieces here and there, and taken a couple of metalshaping classes. Of course, any available funds has to get shared with my other hobby - old italian cars.

I'd like to join this group to gain more knowledge and maybe contribute if I can.

Thanks for the welcome messages!

Rick, I took 2 classes from Kent White several years ago. I've also taken welding and machining classes at various local colleges. Sure wish I could've attended the Santa Cruz meet... maybe next year.

Tom, I don't have a group pic of my project cars, but attached is a "before" pic of one that has had some recent metal work done on it. Actually, it's turning out to be a "do over" because the original metal guy who worked on it was more of a lead wizard than a metal wizard. Almost all his work had to be undone due to the pigeon-poop welds and thick lead filler . As I'm not experienced enough to do this work myself, I had to pay for another metal guy's labor and expertise. No fun for my wallet!

Hi David, you will find more knowledge here than you'll know what to do with. Unfortunately were we live isn't real friendly to doing major metal work at home. Good thing I've lived on my street the longest the neighbors are a little more understanding
