Default Long Time Canadian Lurker

Hi my name is Chris I am from london Ontario Canada .I am a commercial/industrial sheet metal worker by trade. I have had an interest in metal shaping for many years and was very excited once I discovered this and other sites on the internet that exposed the methods needed to shape metal and I have to say I have learned a ton thanks to the people on this site .I have been slowly gathering and making tools I have a beater bag, several bat mallets, a stump, slappers from leaf spring and what I believe to be the worlds longest e-wheel build started in 07 I think. The frame is all cut waiting to be welded-I have the upper and several sets of lowers from Joe. adjuster is 90% done just have to find time to get it done. I have been to metalmeet in oblong and have attended one of Dutches meets and was at Ken Burts fist meet as well.I am self employed and have been working to build my business for the last few years so I do not get as much time to play as I would like. Thanks again for the great site and good luck with the switch over Chris Holmes

Hi Chris,

Glad to see that you joined up! I've really enjoyed watching the interest in metalshaping grow in Southern Ontario over the last five years, I think there's lots of fun times ahead for us guys up here.

Sorry you can't make it over in December, are you sure they can't re-shedule the wedding for the weekend after?

Ken

Thanks for the welcome ken and Rick. I was considering a life threatening Illness for that wedding date LOL but I think I better go it's a 6 hour drive I'm been told not looking forward to that. I will try and make it to the next one and I will see if I can drag a few buddys with me .

Chris, welcome to the site. You don't have the longest e wheel build. I started one in about 1983 and never did get it completed. Had to settle for one of Kerry's Imperial wheels, much better than I could have built. Thanks for the introduction.

Welcome Chris
I am located in Arkona about twenty miles outside of London Ont. I know Kenny B and was to one of his metalmeets. Outstanding guy and metalshaper. I am presently living in Florida for the winter. Send me a message by PM and I will contact you.I have lots of equipment and a large shop so maybe we can get together to help each other out. I am currently putting together a 22 T Track Roadster.

Hi Kenny,

If I recall the timeline correctly, you and Chris missed meeting up by one day at the first regional meet back in 2006. You were over for the Saturday, and Chris dropped in on the Sunday.

Hi ken we actually know each other through stock car racing Jimmi Wiersma and I have had cars since the late eighties .We are still running and are putting together a new Port-City crate late model second one in two years last one had three races on it and was destroyed at delaware don't have to explain that one to you LOL you been to that track .So that hobby consumes a good deal of my time as you know.We stopped building our own chassis because we couldn't make them as fast as we are using them up and being in our fifties it takes us about a month to do some thing we used to do in a night. Couple that with the fact neither of us can see and both are in denial at this stage when it comes to reading glasses she makes it pretty tough not to mention the beverages that may be consumed. Racing supposed to be fun right? When you get back we will get hooked up I would like to see what your working on. I have a fair amount of equipment in my shop as well so between us we should have it covered maybe if we got organized we could hold a south western ontario meet and Ken can drive down to us in the banana belt lol

Default Old Racers

Good to hear from you Chris. Jimmy Wiersma I consider a very good driver who has done a lot with very little. I always respect the people who can make things work without a big budget. Most of my life I had to make do with less than the front runners and always made my cars work better than most. That is what we have on this web site is a bunch of guys making tools and parts that they cant afford to buy or no one makes. What a joy it is to see someone on this site make a tool and I look at it and say that is exactly what I need to do the job at hand. Contact me in Florida at 863-419-7989 and we will talk. Maybe I can give you some info on your race car or we can just shoot the breeze. Lord knows racers never run out of things to talk about.
Kenny
