Thumbs up Message from Aussieland

Hello all,

just a small message from the "lucky country" where is seems everything just rusts and falls apart.

I am in the IT profession and a qualified electrical engineer. However, I spent way to long in the mechanical labs at uni and thus have a distinct mechanical interest for all things. Currently I a restoring an old truck and am going to go the next step in repair that you will all be familiar with.... rust repair and panel replacement.

Guess I will be asking a hell of alot of questions. One of my immediate projects will be the creation of an English wheel. I have some ideas on what to build but will be creating my own anvils. I have a lathe at present so will be looking at doing this from scratch. Profiles will be my first step to creating them. From what I have gathered a 2" wide set is best for panels but a 3" or 4" set is better for a beginner and for support.

Like all who are pushed for time my shed is a little messy currently but I am hoping during the repair I will have some time to both build the shelving I desparately need and get the garage in some state of order.

Cheers

Tim

Not really. 2" wide work well for smaller panels, 3" (and larger) work well for larger panels and offer more support for larger panels but if you're using the 'support' much, you are probably marking your panels up.

Right guess I have alot to learn... :P

So I suppose the first question is knowing that I am starting out and that I will be doing auto, what sized anvils should I be looking at creating?

Cheers

Tim
