Default Hello from the English (Student at McPherson College)

Hello fellow, metal shapers/artisans. My name is Simon, from Rutland, England. I am currently in my last year studying a four year degree in Automotive Restoration at McPherson College, Kansas. Where thanks to an enthusiastic metals teacher, I have been able to pursue my every growing passion for panel beating/metal shaping. Following the completion of my degree, I hope to find work in the panel beating/metal shaping industry. I have made a broad range of items, and I endeavor to post pictures in due course. Currently i am working on making a foam buck of a Ferrari 750 Monza, once i have completed the shaping of the buck I plan to slice sections from it and make wooden stations, which i will use to mirror the other side. Following this i will form and shape aluminium over the buck and have a completed body. The overall size will be 7x3.5ft. I look forward to reading and gathering inspiration from fellow members of the site.

Regards,

Simon

Welcome Simon, Your project sounds great! I can't wait to see some pics of your work as well. I wish there was a "McPherson" type college in CA. with a restoration program I'd be enrolled as well. Good luck with your project and keep us posted.

Hi, with regard to the questions about the college, i could not be more happy with the courses/instructors, i have travelled a long way to peruse my passion in Automotive Restoration and McPherson College has ticked all the boxes and has not disappointed. The course is just what i had hoped for ad more. However this is different for everyone and what one person is looking for might not be what someone else has in mind. The college does offer summer courses which run for 2 weeks, with a wide range of classes, this way you can get a taster of what the college has to offer, this is what i did before joining the college and i would recommend it. The program covers a broad range of areas, such as (Basic/Advanced) sheet metal, engines, machining, woodwork, trim/upholstery, chassis, drivetrain, electrical, automotive history to name a few. I have been lucky enough to go to some fantastic shows,/events with the college and the Model T build team, just recently a selected few of use went to the Santa Fe Concourse in New Mexico. If you have anymore detailed questions you would like to ask please feel free. Overall, choosing to go to this college was one of the best decisions i have made. And if it where not for the college's sheet metal department, i may never have become so enthused and passionate about metal shaping, and now i could not see myself doing anything but metal shaping. Just imagine life without metal shaping, it does not bear to think about

To find out more about the college visit http://www.mcpherson.edu/autorestoration

Thanks for your welcomes to the forum, they are highly appreciated.

Regards,

Simon
