Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Nice work! Will you treat the tank interior to prevent any future rusting?

This is a great project, I agree it’s too nice for a tractor!!

On question: I noticed that you bent the flanges prior to shaping the main part of the tank, I always thought these kinds of details were supposed to wait until the main shaping was done. Any reason you bent the flanges first? Did it make it easier? Will you do this again on the other half of the tank?

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Joe. Yes, ordinarily I would not turn the flanges until later, but as the area adjacent to the flange is flat, there’s no problem with turning the edge first. In fact, it was necessary to turn the flange first, otherwise I couldn’t use the tank as a buck for reference. Also, having an edge turned helps with a perfect place to keep the panels clamped and in reference.

Curiosily, I stretched one end panel’s 90 degree corner flanges with a shrinker stretcher., and the other end panel with oxy-acetylene heat, which worked really well.
