Just the facial expression difference tells the tale. A duly earned grin like that will take a spell to wear off.

You earned every bit of it, hard. The inspector had to know they were outgunned by the time a walkaround was complete.

Wonder if it's the same where Marcus hails.
This was true in California until they started exempting vehicles. I had a '40 Chevy business coupe with a 350 SBC, 400 THM, 3.91 posi and a front straight axle in '78. It was exempt; the DMV didn't even want to look at it. If it is still susceptible to inspection, yes, as you stated. Not all states do that. I see guys getting away with all kinds of thing on later model cars that they wouldn't be allowed to drive, in California (and some other states).

Taking it to a further limit, I have a neighbor with a high output engine in his Camaro.

He has a spare "stock" motor and (maybe) ECM that he puts in every time his registration requires a smog inspection.

We have zero inspection now so you would think a guy has no worries. It's still law and there are environmental cops pulling guys over for roadside inspections. I've been pulled over three times.

I've known people who do that. Crazy, imo.

Pugsy,

The same emissions requirements apply in Australia on later engines in old cars.

Yes that it what it is here too. The engineer checked and wrote all that in his report. The EPA was just for the exhaust sound level and I only had to comply for the 1948 year ( 96 dB ) for that which was louder. I passed for the 2008 donor year everyway ( 89 dB ) as didn't like how loud it was with my first system.

Inspector was a grumpy sod who didn't give a damn. Thought the truck was only valued at $3000 which saved me $1300 in stamp duty costs. Just had it insured for $50,000 as they said it was worth at least that on the agreed value. Also get to keep the wreck for free and get full payout should it ever be written off.

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Funny guy. His stupidity was nice for you.

1300 clams in your pocket always makes for a good day.

Maybe "Grumpy" thought he was insulting you with the low estimate!
