Is the yellow primer anywhere close to the final colour? It makes the car look classy

Funny you should mention that. No, this is the only color it comes in, but after seeing it in yellow I was thinking that it might look good in one of the original colors. This car was originally painted in a blue like Wedgewood blue. I agree that a lighter color looks good on it. I've been focused on following the original plan as closely as possible, so until now I never thought of changing. I'll think about it but I will probably go with black.

I need to make an accurate template for the rear window. I started with some template cardboard for a rough shape, then transferred the shape to a piece of aluminum. I am going to use the original windshield from the CTS so I am also using it as a buck to simulate the shape. This will be used to cut the glass to the correct size as accurately as possible.
Next, wheel in some shape until it lays flat on the glass. I'm using an area near the top of the glass since it has less curve horizontally than the lower areas. It only took a few minutes to get what I needed. I taped the template to the roof over the window opening so I could get a good final size. I traced the opening from the inside with a marker. I want to use a straight H windshield seal. The web between the two slots is .400" so the template has to be .400" smaller than the opening in the roof plus about .050" (total) clearance for upholstery. I set some dividers at .425" and scribed a line around the perimeter of the template. That's the final cut size. I made this final cut by hand so it was as straight as possible. I was not really satisfied with my choice of seals. One end of the seal is slotted with a .250" slot for the windshield and the other end is slotted with a 1/16" slot for the sheet metal lip. When I ordered this, I didn't allow for upholstery. The roof upholstery will wrap around the opening so there will actually be two layers plus the sheet metal. I ordered a new seal with a 3/16" slot on the outer edge and the same 1/4" slot for the glass. I should have that in a few days.

HI Jack,
I'm going through a similar issue of gasket fit to a rear window that is not available. I've been to NAPA with no success. Who are you using for your supplier of the product that you have shown and reordered. It sounds like I need to check into this seller. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TX Mr fxiit Chris |

I got my rear window back from the glass guy. It's always scary waiting for the call from the glass guy. It's either going to be a success or a total loss. There's not much you can do about it. Anything can happen when you're cutting glass. The real stresser will be the windshield. I'll have to pay $400 to $500 for a new windshield and give it to him to cut. If it cracks, it's junk and I'll have to buy another one and try again.
Anyway, this one came out perfect I use Q Bond superglue when I do rubber seals. It is pretty strong. There might be stronger adhesives out there. They also make a filler to help fill gaps or holes I'm not using any filler this time, I spent some time making sure the mating surfaces were tightly matched. There are some types of plastics that this adhesive doesn't work on. I don't remember which group but I think it is the PP group (Polypropylene). Obviously, what ever the container is made of would be one type. I cut a scrap of seal to test the grip. I used a polypropylene windshield tool to align the grooves in the seal and glued the two together. It is cured in less than a minute. The plastic tool comes right out. It's hard to see what's going on here but I took the glued piece of seal and hung it in the vice with a piece of wire. On the other end I attached a chunk of cinder block. Probably about 15 - 20 pounds and hung it up. No problem. I probably could have hung two more blocks on it but you get the point. I think I could keep adding weight until the wire cut through the rubber before the adhesive would fail. In a straight pull, the adhesive works well. Below is the actual rear window seal glued together. It is a nice tight fit around the glass.

Glad the rear window worked out so well and hope the front one does too.
Thanks for passing on the glue you use as will have to do the same thing on mine.
