Default Setting Up OA Torch First Time, A Couple Questions

Hey everyone!

I've assembled some gas welding gear, and have two questions concerning the typical sounds associated.
First, I seem to be getting a soft buzz/rattle coming from the flashback arrestors, both torch and regulator sets. This happens when the Oxy and Fuel is opened at the torch. Psi at Regs is 5-7psi acetylene, 10-13psi oxygen. Is this sound typical?
Second question, my acetylene regulator makes a light ticking sound and the needle "skips" or "jumps" when adjusting the psi. Is this normal, they are brand new Smith series 30 regulators, and the oxygen regulator has much smoother operation. Any tips or remedies?

Thank you!

Kent White teaches a simple and effective method for setting the flame on O/A setups.

Have you visited his website? www.tinmantech.com ?

Yes I have visited his site, even placed and received a hefty order.

The questions above are not so much about flame adjustment, and are more having to do with a rattling sound coming from within the flashback arrestors, and typical function of the acetylene regulator.

So after some more time with the rig, I've narrowed issue #1 down to a vibration / chatter/ rattle coming from the Oxygen flashback arrestors, both torch and regulator mount, even before the flame is lit. It is a big admittance that I'm brand new at oxyacetylene, and its applications! I've learned a lot from the community here. I've read a ton of the resources Kent at TM has provided, and am learning the basics with a medium duty Smith welding outfit before I employ the Meco kit. I dont see the two issues I'm seeing addressed much (arrestor chatter and acetylene regulator "sticking"), so could it be faults with the equipment, or pretty normal?

Our "Normal" is that everything works smoothly.
Either of your issues are rare, by itself. (one in 100?)

Both at once = extremely rare. (one in 1000?)

Regulator needs rebuilding by a good repair shop - IF it is a good reg.
I just sent out a nice old $125. Victor reg for rebuilding .... $90. and it works great, again.

Arrestor rattling = ball check is not seating quietly. Send back for warranty service.

"Normal" is nice, smooth, and working well.

That settles that. I've removed all 4 arrestors and put on some regular check valves, no noise! Things flowing smoothly, feel safer than before. Thanks Kent for your very logical expertise, man am I green rn.

PS after a few more hrs on the torch I'm finding a good amount of joy in the process. Thank u everybody!
