Suggestions on how to repair this piece
I've attached a picture of a speaker mounting panel replacement part. I have an original of this but the back and bottom portions are rotted (essentially everything to the right of the speaker hole for about an inch or two up the side in the attached photo). I'd like to salvage what I can and build the rest. I have various hand tools, hammers and an English wheel.
My questions: how would I make the flange on the bottom? Am I better off removing what is there and welding in an new piece? I think I can cut and shape/bend the rest of the piece. My other thought was if I had a shrinker/stretcher (I don't) that I could take flat stock, bend a lip, and the nwork the corner. speaker.jpg any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks Shawn

Hi Shawn,
to bend a lip take a bolt M 12 (i don't know US size) Cut a slot with a handsaw 20 mm deep. The slot has to fir the material thickness. Screw a self locking nut on the bolt. Now you can adjust the dept of the slot to the width of the lip. You can bend the lip step by step with the bolt just go slow. Ben |

Is this part of a spot on restoration? If not, I would consider making the piece out of ABS plastic. ABS can be cut, molded wit heat and glued. It is inexpensive, so you can afford to make a few mistakes with it.
