May be pretty old.. Smith tip sizes today start at AW 200 and maybe 205 matches Victor #2

There is another larger torch with GX mixer #1 and GXU #62.

Sometimes I use a torch of equal vintage to weld a restoration.

Like the 1937 Howard DGA we made a round cowl for a few years back ...

I had my choice of using a Victor J27 from the 1930's or a Smith from the 1930's.

I liked the Smith.

Hence, if your torch does not leak or hiss, and the flame can be adjusted to what you need, and the regs hold the flame steady, then you are good to go.

It is a very nice torch, Norm.
I only use it when "matching the vintage work" - gloves on, silk cushion, and am always guarding the tip surfaces.

Phil. I'm nowhere near your car. I can't judge the situation. I think there is no need to support the place from the other side. The properties of the material are very advantageously changed by heat. Try all the ways. If you are not sure of your abilities, ask an experienced colleague for friendly help. I mean a colleague who knows what he's doing. That's important.
If it doesn't work, no problem, it's a piece of sheet metal somewhere from Stuttgart, Germany. Feel free to cut out the piece and weld another one there. I don't see a problem with that.
You put a little more sealant... If the sealant doesn't stick and doesn't fly away when you close the door... it's not visible at first glance.

How is your torch working, Phil?
Heat the ridge and tap 5 times and you are probably done....

I got the 206 tip cleaned out today. Im 20 miles from welding parts. Hope to get into town Monday and get new hoses and arrestors as none on this rig. Have been refreshing safety and lightup procedures as its been a very long time. Harris regulators appear okay.

Closer and closer - good news!
Dish soap drops + water in spray bottle = good leak check when pressure first applied to system.
