This the start of the LHS bedside. I started by plasma cutting some 3mm plate that will become the former for the wheel arch. As I had the RHS to copy, I ran the blank through the rollers until it matched. Then all I had to do was weld some 8mm rod to the edge. The rod gives a rounded edge to the flare's edge

Took the panel steel blank and blocked it around the arch. I have a 100mm diameter pipe that I used to get the flare shape, so with a combination of blocking and pipe work it slowly takes shape

Have to be careful to clamp the panel to the former otherwise the arch 'moves' as you're working the flare

Clamped solidly as I turn the flange over on the arch.

You do such a great job on forming it that way.
I don't think I would have even tried and would have formed the flare separately!

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Nice. So, the flat sheet starts on top and keep tapping down and stretching?

How is the flat part? Still pretty flat or a lot of waves?

A paper pattern of the part gives me the flare edge. I vivid a line on the inside and that gives me the spot I need to block. With my 100mm pipe, I lay the panel over it and block the line. You've got to move the panel to correspond to the pipe as you move around the curve. Once I've got the depth right on the flare, I tidy it up with a hammer an dolly. Also, I will beat it down with my home made round slapper you can see in the picture.
Yeah there are waves through it, but I have dressed them up a bit. There's always magic mud to do a real mint job

I think its worth a go to try something that might not work. Panel steel's cheap, my time is my time and you learn some things. Doing it in separate pieces can open up another can of worms
