Jack, your work continues to impress me a great deal. Even more impressive to me is your work ethic. You sir, are a beast! I've been traveling and was a few pages behind.

You asked a few pages back if anyone near you had a recip machine you could use. I'm not near you but if there is ever a time you'd like to come down and use any of my tools, just let me know.

On the bumper subject, the only thought that comes to mind was something Cass Nawrocki did. In making bumpers for one of his Mercedes 540K's (I think that was the car), he made a heavy steel male buck...and by heavy, I'm talking 1/4"+ thick. It had built in clamps to hold the metal at the starting end and some holding and clamping fixtures. Using a come-a-long to pull the metal over the buck, he applied significant heat and hammered the 16 ga steel down over the buck, crushing tucks as they arose. The end result was ground smooth and chrome plated. I thought I had photos but can't find them.

Steve, I'm going to flush mount the windshield. I'll install with 3M Window Weld urethane. The windshield is a little too wide for rubber seal. The A pillars would have to be wider than the windshield by 1/2 to 3/4" per side. I just don't have the width .
Kerry, I just came out of a high volume flat rate body shop. I figured I'd keep it in high gear as long as I'm physically able. Work is good for the soul.

I capped off the right side of the cowl then got back to the doors.

There is a twist in the right door that I have to get out. I'm not sure if it's a result of the damage done in the collision or if it's from all the welding I've been doing, or a combination of both. The door is aligned in the back and the hinges hold the rear of the door in place. At the front of the door, the bottom is in and the top is out. There's a total difference of about an inch. I fought with this thing for over two hours but in the end, I prevailed. I'm not so sure it's a result of being smarter than the door, just more persistent.
I put a wood shim in at the bottom and used a clamp to pull in the top. As I was doing this I was watching the inside door frame to see where it was flexing in order to conform.

I used a torch to heat up the areas that were flexing to a cherry red line and allowed them to cool. This process, during the heating stage, makes the heated metal expand. Since the heated area is surrounded by cool steel, the expanding metal has nowhere to go so it will either buckle or compress into itself and become thicker since it is prevented from becoming longer or wider (More mass in the same area). As the metal cools, it shrinks in length and width but not in thickness so it will draw in the adjacent material with it as it shrinks. This is easy to do but you need to figure out WHERE to do it. It took a few rounds but the door is straight now.

So what do you think? As is, or along the green tape line?

The green line has a better flow. I know in your concept drawing you show a top and after reviewing it I think the green line matched your idea well.

Green line looks good but could be deceiving not seeing the final concept pic. Can you post again or let me know what post # it's in?

Ray's renderings are on pages 1 and 62. I think you're right, the tape line will work better with the angle of the roof in back. Damn. I love this guy's artwork. I hope I can do it justice. See below

Thanks.

I love the renderings.

The radius in the concept goes almost to the bottom of the glass like your green tape line.

I agree, the green line is closer to the concept, which is stunning.
