December 7, 1941
Eighty years ago a 20mm round went through this column in Hanger 6 on Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, HI.
In 1985 I took a small crew over there and demolished it. I saved this piece, the other 800 tons were sent to Korea. Pearl Harbor beam.jpg

Good point Don. Maybe a cast plaque. I sent about ten pieces back to the Bay Area in a container for the owner and estimators. Each piece had different damage so they looked like scrap to the uniformed in the yard and during a cleanup they were sent to the recycler.

Right now a friend of mine is in Palau doing some work. He says that the Japanese artillery guns are still in place up on the hilltops, with their cartridge magazines scattered all around. And life goes on.

Around 1949 my father was stationed in Hawaii and acquired Mahogany planks from Hickam Field still having bullet holes form Dec. 7. He turned it into furniture and still uses it today. We but a plaque on them with the history for the future.

It's been 80 years since Pearl Harbor. Wow. Thankful that in 1941 so many men and women were there to answer the call and fight tyranny both in Europe and the Pacific. We all owe them a debt of gratitude.
I was nominated as a Junior in HS to go to something called Boys State that summer, which was run by the American Legion. This was in 1988. Back then they were just old guys to me.Would love to have the chance to talk to them again and thank them.
