The originals went up to the chrome trim on the fender and had horizontal
grooves(recessed beads?). My father had a 48 Caddy - the stone guards were very pitted when he bought the car in the 80s, so it is definitely worth having some protection there, if you plan on driving it a lot.

The goal was not to protect the skirts from stone chips. I wanted to tie the rocker moldings in to the skirts but it just didn't work well. Not a big deal.

Knowing what to keep and what to throw away is what makes all the difference. Harder after you made the part but I think you are correct here.

Wow incredible! Unbelievable amount of detail. This will definitely be a project I come back to when I need motivation!

Yesterday, Matt Buca came over to help me figure out what's up with the electronics on the Cadillac. Matt is an instructor for GM and ASE. He teaches service techs how to repair new vehicles. As it turned out, he knew (and trained) some of the guys that I worked with at the dealership.

Anyway, he managed to get the Cadillac running.

I still need to sort out a few things like windows and door latches but the burden has been lifted from my shoulders. I was worried that I had screwed something up
One of the main problems was a connector that was under the seat track. When the CTS was hit from the rear, the driver's seat was badly bent. What I didn't notice was that the connector was crushed. I got that repaired and we were almost home. The communications on these cars is so complex that I couldn't repeat to you what Matt told me.

Somewhere along the lines of there being multiple pathways for comms. High speed and low speed CAN/BUS and LAN. Along these pathways you can send multiple signals through the same wire to different destinations by using different frequencies, IE five different signals going to five different destinations in ONE wire! Each destination is looking for information on its preprogrammed frequency and ignores all others.

So, we've made progress. A milestone has been put behind us. Here's a short walk around video:

Congratulations Jack. That is why I switched from the 2016 Camaro V6 in the Austin. I could not find anyone that had even assembled a stand alone harness for the engine, and no one seems to have been able to get the 8 speed to work because of the issues you mention, the CAM/BUS and LAM.

Congrats on the start up. Spring is close and you must be chomping at the bit for a cruise by now.

Jack that is great news!
I really enjoyed your video thanks for creating that for us to see.
Seeing it running is very inspirational, best of luck working through the final details.
