Yesterday, I finally got around to doing the captured wire edge on my Jaguar left rear fender. The work was pretty straight forward, mark the intended shape of the opening. Shape the wire to match that intention. I used a stretching hammer on the very edge togain some metal because the radius increases when bending from in to outward. Then adjusting my tool depth to be the required 2.5x the wire and metal thickness gradually bend the flangeto 90°. At this point I used a dolly and stretching hammer to give a little more metal, clamped the wire in place and finished closing the sheet metal around the wire. I very pleased with the results. Very little metal finishing is needed and the shape is what I wanted.
Thank you RockHill Will for the cool adjustable bending tool!

Nice work Mike.
Not to be a downer but those cinderblock supports under the car are really unsafe. I'm sure you know this but seeing it in a picture makes me have to say something. I lost a friend just out of high school because he was working under a car that was supported by cinderblocks and was crushed with no one around to help, he died under his car. OK that's enough of the bad news just had to comment. Very awesome project keep up the great work and thanks for the pictures when posting. TX Mr fixit Chris ![]() |

Thank you for your concern. The cinder blocks are there only to support rear axle occasionally. Currently not being used because I have solid struts in place of shocks/springs. The rear axle is actually hanging and the chassis is sitting on locating blocks.
I too had a friend die while working alone on his car, when it slide on jack stands just enough to compress his chest and suffocate him without breaking a bone. I am extremely aware of my alone status and take extra care to avoid accidents.
