Where do I get an aluminum bar to make a metal press die for my truck>
I have to fabricate a metal piece for the left quarter rear of my 38 humpback panel truck. It will go from the wheel well around to beneath the loading doors. It was damaged before I bought it. I was thinking of sawing a pattern in an aluminum bar and using my 20 ton press to shape the metal. Can I get some help with this. I do have a bead roller and and english wheel, but I want to try this. Where do I buy the bar etc, Thanks to all of you.

Very pretty old humpie. Used to be one like it plowing snow up the hill at 6200Ft ... w/1956 Dodge M37 3/4T 4wd chassis and drive. Your body repairs will involve a lot of shaping and a little welding - or a little shaping and a lot of welding. Pressing long sections and curving them may be a good thing - or pressing shorter pcs that also can be shaped and contoured. Metal by the foot.com? Speedy metals.Com? Used them both. Good folks. Pick your shipping distance. Nice old humpie. (used to be a '36 Ford humpie w/Marmon Harrington 4wd, over in Ontario OR, years ago.)

You could try looking under "metal" or "aluminum" in your local yellow pages if you want to try someplace local. A few phone calls may find a drop or smaller piece that could save some time and money. If you want to saw that curve out of a single piece you're probably looking for plate rather than bar.
I think that's a very big piece for a 20 ton press to make in one go. You might have to use it more like a hammer form to finish things off.

I have had decent luck on Ebay for drops from shut down machine shops.
Very nice. I really like the humpbacks, the first one that caught my eye was a rodded 30's at Hot August Nights. And even up to the mid '60's GM Panel trucks.
