How to maintain position on Buck ?
Hi
I've come across a lot of information regarding making bucks, and on shaping. However my problem is, having shaped the material how can I be sure I'm checking on the same place on the buck each time. Each time I move material I can't be sure the piece is sitting on the same point I last checked, or whether I've just made it worse or better. Does anyone use location pins or some other method?

Pins work. Brads. Screws. .... Tape, with pen marks on tape. Also to consider is that the panel will re-orient a bit during shaping passes. Sometimes you fight that. Sometimes you celebrate that. "Trim" can be non-trivial. Sometimes 3/8" is adequate. Then again, 1/2". Or 5/8". I had a difficult job one time, aerospace, and L-M specified "one inch of trim" - damn - when shrinking some edges severely it meant double-severely in the trim zones - just to get lopped off later. Blech. Really had to keep those panels oriented spot-on .... but they passed all the inspections .... whew! (tape w/pen marks).
