Hi Jack, Hope you might help me with a couple of questions. Back a bit you "skinned" some pieces in Carbon Fiber, I too am going to skin some interior pieces in CF but when I talked to the supplier recently he recommended polyester resin (Surf board guys apparently use this, even for the final clear coat) . He said the epoxy would go soft and sticky on interior pieces if the car was left in the sun with the windows up. My two questions to you are: Have you experienced anything like that ? And did you, "Automotive Clearcoat" your pieces for hardness and UV protection ? I'm in Texas, so interior heat is for real.

Epoxy resin has outstanding heat resistance. I've never heard anything credible about breakdown as long as it is thoroughly mixed and properly applied. As far as working with it goes, you have more time with the epoxy. Especially if it's hot out.
I've always felt that if it's good enough for NASA, it's good enough for me.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was taken aback when they said that to me. That is my thinking too (NASA). I have only worked with polyester resin so far and I was looking forward to the leisurely pace of epoxy
Thanks again for documenting your incredible build it has been helpful beyond words.

Also, I don't bother with clear coat. Sand the surface smooth and add a final coat of resin. It kicks as smooth as glass. If you get a couple specks of dust, you can sand and rub them out just like you would with clear coat.

The only thing with epoxy is if it sees the sun much it will cosmetically chalk up. Epoxy itself doesn't have good UV resistance.

Oh boy. I got to be the first to congratulate Jack on MetalShaper of the YEAR. Our first MSOTY. Jack, there was no discussion about this among the admins. We all recognized the 'rightness' of the decision. (Which was made several months ago.)

This thread is a master class in how to build a top tier custom. Thank you for sharing it with us!
