Default List of gasweldable alumnium

Hy all

I surched for wich sorts of alu can be gaswelded.
I searched the forums. And understand the difference in more difficult to shape and availebility.

I would ask everyone who gaswelds aluminium to put down exactly wich series of alu they have gaswelded with succes

I think this comes in hand. For everyone that is buying leftovers. Ore ordering new sheet. I just worked with 1050 1.5 mm. Seems realy soft to me for a motorcycle tank. So got me thinking. To try something in the 5000 range But i like to know if all 5000 series is gasweldable

Yes, and also:
1005
3005
5005
5052 (aka "Birmabright" in the UK)
5163 (old alloy)
6061
6063
6153 (old alloy)

And for the more experienced craftsmen who wish to foray further ...

5083 and 5086 are weldable, but NOT by oxy-fuel - because they are alloyed with over 5% magnesium, and with Mg at that alloy concentration the alkaline metal salts from the welding flux lock within its matrix at solidus, and the result is welded aluminum that corrodes from the inside out - until the reaction is fully completed. There is no neutralizing the flux when it is entrapped in the alloy matrix like that.

I will avoid the 2000 series altogether, despite some weldability there.

Hope this helps,

Kent mensions. Three sorts in de 5000 range
I come across ALMg-3 AW-5754. Would this work

If three sorts alu out of the 5000 range can be gaswelded. Would all the 5000 be gaswelable?

No, as I mentioned the 5083 and 5086 are NOT gas weldable.
