And your Matco truck will carry the Martin hammers and dollies too - with Matco branding and pricing. The part # system is even pretty darn close.

Mac as well has the Martin brand with their name on it, but their price is comparable to Martin. I picked up a 7 piece set from Mac for about $200 with 3 hammers, 3 dollies and a spoon. I like them, but my Snap-on hammer is my favorite. I believe it was about $55, and well worth it.

I agree. I like my Snap-On hammers over my Mac hammers.

My problem is getting the trucks to stop at my shop. I have everything I need, so 90% of my business is warranty claims

Ebay, look up proto/plomb, and fairmount. you can have a better hammer than martin, mac or any other tool truck for a much better cost. About 50 percent of the hammers I buy off there only need the handle tightened, and I use Rod Doc's loctite method, works great so far. The brand name hammers always need to be dressed before use anyway, some more than others. But, You cant rebuild a hammer for what Craig at Dagger sells them for.

I will be posting a hammer rebuild thread soon.

Marty

Re Dagger, they have a nice set, CP07K, but the price link for it doesn't seem to be working. Bah.

I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to David for starting this thread jacking, though it has been very informative. Good to hear what everyone likes because you've been using them far longer. And Marty is right, even now there are such hammers on ebay.

On the other hand, for newbs considering David's DVD, tools are the other half of the formula.

And I'm sure David does not mind "his" thread is constantly bumped to the top.

But joke aside, someone looking for hammer info would probably not look here first. So shelling out a separate thread on hammer choice would be appropriate.

I too hope Marty posts that. I am a big repurposer and will try to help by finding that info myself and posting a new thread for it.

EDIT: he did, good on him.

Speaking of threads on topic, I totally missed this one about beginners' tools

http://www.allmetalshaping.com/showt...ighlight=astro

so if you are in here and still haven't seen what you need about tools for starting, especially with David's DVD , check it out.
