I took the fenders and hood in and painted them. Then I brought home the skirts and deck lid. I got the deck lid sanded and rubbed out, then installed and adjusted it.
I'll pick up the front end parts tomorrow but I'll let them set a day or two before sanding. In the meantime I still need to sand and rub out the skirts.

Jack we all know you are a super hero but how do you hang a freshly painted deck lid by yourself.

VERY CAREFULLY! I folded up a couple microfiber towels and set them on the rear deck where the corners of the deck lid would rest. Placed the nuts, ratchet, and shims within reach on both sides, and set an adjustable prop rod in the trunk near the back. I lifted the deck lid up and set the forward corners on the towels and set up the prop rod in back to hold it up.
While steadying the deck lid on the prop rod, I dragged it back till the front corners dropped into the opening. The towels prevented scratching and provided a gap between the panels. At this point, since the corners of the deck lid were tucked in, it was pretty stable. I held it in place with one hand and started the nuts with the other. Once the nuts were on, it couldn't fall so I set the final gaps and tightened it down. I don't recommend trying this. Get some help. I've done this many times before at work, but even then, if someone was near by I'd ask for help. I'm just answering your question, not making a recommendation.

I picked up my hood and fenders this morning and started wet sanding the hood. Other obligations kept me from getting any further. I'll sand the fenders tomorrow and get everything rubbed out.

Sorry if you've covered this before Jack. What is your process after wet sanding? How do you bring the shine?

Wet sand with 2,000#, knock it down with 3M 05954 Super duty compound using a wool pad on the buffer, then a finer wool pad with CSI Ceram-X polish and the buffer. Last I use a finishing sponge pad on the orbital polisher with CSI D1 detailing polish. It's a long process and there's a lot of surface area on this barge. I should have built a Pinto.

I got the hood sanded and rubbed. Ready to go back on the car. Also, many thanks to my friends Jim and Ed Curtis at Magic Custom in Brook Park,OH for allowing me to use their spray booth.
COOL!
