Lotus 11 rear quarter
I got roped into this job by a friend. The car is a replica lotus 11 with a handbuilt body. The body has been built freehand ad looks great, by that I mean it looks like a genuine old race car complete with lots of visible welds, dings, ripples and wheel marks..
With the body having been bult free hand there isnt a lt of uniformity side for side, the underside of the left rear corner is higher the left arch opening is 2 inches higher than the right so a fair bit of artistic licence side for side. I decided to make the left side closer to the right by taking a flexible shape patern from the right side... getting the tape to stick to the old ally was a chore .... made it in the end though. From there I cut a blank of 3003 1.6mm ali and shrunk the perimiter on the stump. then stretched the flat area on the bag and wheeled it all smoothish.. The panel took a fair twist and apeared to be curling in on itself, that was a bit worrying but it just needed additional stretching in selected areas to flatten it out .. Ive got a fair bit of work on it yet but it looks to be in the ball park.

You show us some very interesting projects Ian! As always, I'll be watching closely to see how you deal with this one.

carried on with the wheeling and managed by some fluke to make a fairly decent job...
im fair chuffed with the result so far. There is a fair bit of shape in the rear quarter, Ive probably got about 4 hours wheeling time in it, but maybee im just slow. I managed to get a few marks in it when washing out with a relatively flat wheel, but I got it there in the end. I may do a little more finnishing with the wheel, but the problem is, this side is going to be better than the other side .... It would be an interesting challenge to do the whole clip..

The panel is looking great, nice job. Lots of shape in that panel. Thanks for posting your progress.

Looks great Ian. You are going to end up doing the other side now anyway!

I managed to get an hour tonight so made a start to welding stuff together, It went together better than expected. The car was dropped off today to allow fitting so will also get some pics of that, Is an interesting wee model.. and would be a great shaping project with good sellable potencial..

Cheers Stuart, Im a begginer too, I stick my neck out and take some of this stuff on just for the practice.. My day job couldnt be further removed from my hobby.. Just jump in with both feet the waters lovely and warm... and there is always dozens of folk on here more than willing to throw you a line if you get out your depth...
I threw the rear section on to the car today and grabbed some pictures for the hell of it, just needs some trimming and the edges wired and wer done . The car is a replica Lotus 11 body on a lotus 7 chassis fitted with a big valve lotus twin cam and twin 40 webber carbs.. There are some clever bits and some rough bits, but the overall effect is pretty smart. I wouldnt mind doing a complete body for one, but dont really have the time just now .. Cheers for now and thanks again for the encouragement and possitive comments..
