Default Visit to NASCAR Technical Institute

It's been quite a while since I have been involved in much in the way of metal shaping, but the Stock Car racing museum in Mooresville, N.C. recently invited me to attend a 'meet and greet' event that is held annually to raise money for a Toys for Tots organization. It was the held at the NASCAR Technical Institute, also in Mooresville, N.C. I was not prepared for the size and scope of this event. More than 700 folks paid as much as $100 each, plus a toy, to stand in line for two hours to get miscellaneous items signed and to take pictures.

The signing itself was in the fabrication shop of the NASCAR Institute.

Below: Along the back wall to the right are (5) bare stock car chassis, a sprint car, a race truck and 5-6 complete NASCAR stock cars.

Below: Sheet metal equipment is seen across the back left of the picture, and the guy in the left front of this picture is restoring the last of the winged Super bird Dodge stock cars that was owned by his father, Mario Rossi, that I worked for in Daytona.

Below: This gentleman came from Bristol, Tennessee to show me a die cast car that he built from scratch replicating the very first stock car that I ever designed and built the complete chassis and cage for. We finished 9th on the lead lap in that 1982 Daytona 500 race, with Elliot Forbes Robinson driving.

Below: This is the guy that built this car. He did a really good and detailed and accurate job. I tried to buy it from him.

Hi Will
Like a family reunion.
Glad you were able to attend and get a little recognition for all the hard work and creative engineering!

Hope both of you are well
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

I would. I'm sure I'd get more than my money's worth...

Until then, I'll quietly observe. Thanks for the post Will.

Hi Will,
This is an awesome event, Will. It took a lot of energy and planning to make it work and look this good. I am very happy you got in on the celebration - and having a guy hand-build a model of your early effort is a very nice tribute! Old team jackets are a great sight to see, for sure. (Very good for the heart after all this time.) Kudos! Big joy!

This showed up unexpectedly in my Christmas Stocking last night. If you overlook the misspelled name and skip to 16:40, you can listen to the good stuff & why the term "legend" isn't simply another casual adjective when it comes to Will Cronkrite-

I had never listened to a podcast. Very cool to have my first one be my friend and mentor RockHillWill. Thank you very much for bringing me even further into the 21st Century, sir. You're the best.

Edit- yup, didn't fix the http/https with the copy & paste. This should be better-

Default rest link

I've had some inquiries that the link above did not work for some folks. Try this. Scroll down. Lots of behind the scenes folks here from NASCAR days past.
