Default Cleco starter kit suggestions.

Hi Group,

I have some patch panel work on a car floor and was thinking of using Cleco holders to keep the panels in place while I weld them in place. I have only seen them here and other internet posts but have not used them myself.

The question is, what would make a good starter kit and who might offer a good value to get the pieces, or a kit all ready put together. The other thing is what sizes seem to be the most often used to start with vs getting all the sizes and spending more than I need to, since I'm on tight shop budget.

The other thing is, for floor board replacements is it OK to lap the edges or am I going down the wrong path with the Cleco idea and holding with them to do the repair? I'm doing my first hand forming of the different indents to look like the original.

Default Rust Repair vs Restoration.

I use Cleco when shaping a panel when the need to remove/replace it is repetitive. For floors and trunks or other under panels usually shaped once and ready to weld I use sheet metal screws mostly to hold it for welding or final cuts though both pieces for butt welding. For under body panels the issue of butt vs lap for floors depends on the final value of the car. IF i do lap a joint it is usually a quarter of and inch or less and welded/ground from the side that is visible. Don't forget to caulk the none welded lap side.

Some might use clecos for butt-welded installation, first shaping, - then cleco to floor to accurately scribe the edge to be matched and the final trim before welding it in.

aircraftspruce.com is an online seller. My opinion is that you'd probably won't need more than two dozen unless you're building an airplane or something that is cleco dependant. Whether you buy the 3/32" or 1/8" size probably isn't important. You'll also need a pair of cleco pliars. Wrap or dip the handles in something bright so you can find 'em.

I bought mine through MRO Tools via E-bay.
You can go on E-bay type in Cleos and you have all sorts of sizes and amounts to choose from. I always get mine through MRO via e-bay they seem to have the best prices and I think free shipping.

Default clecos

if your going to butt weld your panels consider some weld mates.
these little blade clamps are great once you are used to them.
Ebay ones are mild steel I have 6 stainless steel ones from rods and relics supply i dont think he makes these any more

www.yardstore.com is a good place to find rivet related stuff. New and used and basic kits.

Numerous sellers. I searched on "weld mate sheet clamps"
