I have both. Early on I built a 5 HP unit and it is fine for a one man shop. I can run a mill and my big lathe at the same time with no problem.

My Pmax is on a VFD. However when I got my big Eckold, it was European voltage...550V 50 hz. There are two motors and a bunch of control relays and such. There are some step up VFDs but they are expensive. Years ago, John 'Boogiemanz' Brown had given me a huge multi-tap Westinghouse transformer. My neighbor and I moved some taps around and got an output voltage of right at 500V 50 HZ. It has worked fine. Nothing overheats. It does run 20% faster on 60hz but that's OK too.
