Default Quarter window

In converting the four door to a two door I didn't anticipate that the flat opera window was in a different plane than the rear door. I pulled the lower sill into alignment but have to make an adjustment in the upper return where the C post was removed. I believe the glass was retained in U shaped weatherstripping and held by the garnish molding. I have to modify the original Dorset garnish because of rust damage and a different radius at the opera window so the final shape will be changed.
My question is since I will need to modify the opening to accept flat glass, is there any better mounting system for this window?

This view is inverted showing about a half inch bend. I suppose a fallback solution would be bending acrylic.

The system the manufacturers used was pretty good. What I have done in the past, is to use 4mm toughened, as it will curve to a shape. Also, I direct glue the glass to the body. Just got to mask the corresponding pieces, so you can knife the excess glue off

Thanks Chris, by 4mm toughened I take it you are talking about an acrylic? I had thought that a pinch weld flange might work as a direct glue on.
Yesterday I found original rubber parts at Scottsoldautorubber. Depending on the size difference in the original Dorset quarter window and mine I may try to bring the opening in to a single plane.

Eugene. Maybe it would be good to make a flat surface for this glass. I see that it needs a little adjustment. Add somewhere, remove elsewhere. And it would be easier.
If it will look good as a result. I see only pictures. It's a compromise.

Yes, that is where I am today Jaroslav. The front of the window matches the Dorset quarter window, the height and rear radius is further back on the Devon but if I make a window pattern from plywood I think I can bring it all into the same plane without too much distortion.

Sorry. 4mm toughened is glass. You can have a custom piece cut and tempered to your pattern. Acrylic scratches to much as its just a plastic.

i would discourage resorting to using curved glass there. you will get a weird vertical reflection on the window that will be very noticeable and just not look right. it'd be an awful lot of work to get custom tempered glass made, only for the finished product to look bad. fix the metal and be happier down the road.

Thanks Ray. I think I will be able to do that. I used the door skin to fill the quarter panel, but I should be able to shape a piece to keep the window flat.
