I have a 1975 Motors crash estimating guide and they refer to it as the
"above lid " on some cars and "below window" for others.

so the mystery continues.

No mystery, just a "delicious" example of regional/national variation in technical terminology or dialect.


I'm guessing Kent hasn't weighed in by this point because he's sorting out a huge list, beginning about the time of (but not the actual) car he garnered his first Pebble Beach award.
