Default Not really a question but an interesting way to make tucks

Check this out, does anybody use a method like this for tucks? (I assume that's what he doing?)

Hi,

I saw this a few days ago on Instagram and I agree, it is an interesting bench stake for putting in tucks.

I took a screen shot of the bench head, I can't say that I have ever seen one.

The process is detailed in “Metalwork For Craftsmen. A step by step guide with 55 projects” by Emil F. Kronquist, page 12. Book is available in reprint from Dover Publications. Originally published in 1942 by McGraw-Hill under the title “Art Metalwork”

https://www.amazon.com/Metalwork-Cra.../dp/0486227898

In the book, image showed using a stump or wooden block with corresponding v-cut or relief instead of a metal bench head like video shows but it’s the same process/exercise entitled “shallow raising with wedge mallet”.

It’s a good book for a variety of small wares work methods, lots of stake work. It’s well worth $10-$15.

Yes.
I bought one of these double-stakes back in the '80's. yes, the wood "chisel" mallet works best - on soft thin metals.
Keep the stake heads polished.
He's got the "back-and-forth" moves down with his disc.

(A manual ram-press with a round-bar tool shoves in the ruffles with less stretching, btw.)
