Could a rivet gun with a steel insert work for flow-forming as a portable plannishing hammer? I've got some rear shock towers for a suspension in a race car that I formed out of 13 ga (.095") steel and welded into the rear wheel tubs. I rolled the steel into a cylinder as best I could, but it could use some cosmetic finishing. I could hammer and dolly it, but that might take a while with this gauge. I'm wondering if flow forming with a dolly backer might make this work go quicker.

I'd give it a try - use a 5x gun and a heavy dolly...

Planishing the reverse/saddle/ducktail ...1/8th index ?
Kent I noticed in the video that it looks like your using a 1/8th" pin to index the die set. I an trying to build a toenail die set for my Air Hammer. Is the 1/8th" enough and can you show more detail on what you have. Fred26t

Hi Fred, That whole development started from a clear concept, and then evolved through three iterations into production. Yes, vertical hard pin slides in slot. Clearance is enough to allow sliding during heavy chatter. Many hours run on one set, on one job, and proof positive.

Kent, I have something similar to rubber. Two cylindrical anvils nanapadly me. You have great ideas. I'd like to meet and discuss you sometime. Great thinking.
