"This is gonna be great!"
Hello members. Thank's for being here.
My name is Brett. I'm active duty Army in El Paso, TX. I'll be heading towords the completion of an aluminum gas tank for my track bike. I'm aware of the safety considerations of this project and expect to make some other things first to build a skill set. I've attended a motorcycle mechanics trade school in the past, worked with a friend at his machine shop porting cylinder heads (and will speak not of it on this site! LOL). This is and will be about forming metal into great wonders. So far I beat .063" 5052 Al. into a support for my tuner and multi-effects processor (I play bass guitar, pics would help, later)
Oh, and I like Smilies.
And coffee...
(and 3003 )

Hi Brett and welcome! Lots of track bike tanks were made from ally here in the UK many years ago so no problem with the practice. I have seen quite a few in my time, most were very simple in construction usually made from 16g aluminium and were gas welded.

Hello David,
Gas welding will be my starting point. Like I said, I'll make and ruin some stuff for a bit before trying the tank project. Just aquired a small torch kit with 10lb and 20lb tanks. I'm smitten with the torch I saw here: http://www.cut-like-plasma.com/index.htm . Expensive though. Maybe this one: http://www.tinmantech.com/html/meco_midget_torch.php .

I'll be asking around. Any comment?
