Newbie from KC
I'll mostly be lurking but have really enjoyed what I've seen so far on the site.
Long time old Truck/Car guy with a bunch of projects. The one that brought me here is my plans to build a dirt track racer. I've had these plans for several years and have been collecting parts here and there since. I pretty much have all the mechanical parts collected so at some point I want to stick those together and start working on the body portion of the project. My car will be powered by a Chevrolet 235 Inline six a good friend of mine is also going to build one running a 248 Jimmy engine. Last fall out of no where he started working and got his to the roller stage with the motor setting in it so I need to dig into mine and get rolling. The plans that started the project are located here if anyone is interested: http://mongosgarage.com/projects/racer/index.htm I've got several other sets of plans and pictures but these are the one's that started it. welcome to the board. Sound like you have lots of good projects to work on. There are lots of great metalshapers here to help you learn. My best advice, start hammering.

Hi Steve, I have always liked the look of those old dirt track racers. Some have found their way onto the race tracks over here in the UK and are raced in VSCC (vintage sports car club) events here. I always thought it would be fun to build one. I like the plans. A project like this is very do-able for anyone with some practical skills. The amount of metal shaping involved is not so vast as to be over ambitious. Do you intend to make the body from steel or aluminium?. The chassis work is straightforward enough. I have built quite a few chassis over the years and to me this is a very simple yet interesting type of car to build.
One of the guys on here just built a similar body. Very nice!. I have made bodies for early European racing cars and may have to build one of these cars myself one of these days. Welcome to the site. I look forward to seeing your project progress. David

Great Project Steve. Welcome to the group. Ron Lile is also building one based on a real racer that was in his family.

Nice drawings
Welcome Steve, that is an exceptional nice set of vintage plans. I have a similar drawing for an early midget race. Thanks for sharing.

thanks
Thanks for the warm reception guys.
David: My current plan is to build it out of aluminum as I've done some pounding on it before and figured it would be easier. I may learn otherwise once I do some more reading here. I actually came here via the Garage Journal board, I'm a long time member there (since it was just the garage forum) I came here and went right to the automotive projects section and Ron's speedster project was the first thread I read, after that I was sure I was going to like this place. Seems like a great bunch of guys working on projects similar to one's that I've had bouncing around my head!! Mongo
