The newb of newbies

Hi all. I work in the creative field and love what I do but everything is done on the computer and sorely miss the days of banging my knuckles and getting dirt under the fingernails. I have no experience with metal but recently became obsessed after doing some simple work on my motorcycle. I’m teaching myself to MIG weld and have a few basic tools. I don’t have grandiose plans at this point; I just would like to first start with making small art pieces. I love robots. =)

Are there any recommended DVD’s or books that are geared toward the metal challenged?

As far as getting a feel for beginning, I can't recommend anything better than David Gardiner's video.

David shows how to accomplish high quality work with hand tools.

Then just start reading and practicing.

Thanks guys. The one thing I do have a lot of is enthusiasm. I also have a drive to learn a skill that I can pass down to my son. He's just 6 months but I'm hoping when he's ready, he'll want me to teach him to be creative like his old man so I need to sharpen my skills.
