I was reading the forum on trifive and there was a link to this site in one of the posts. My son and I have been building a 73 CJ5 for about 3 years now. The frame was really bad so we built a tube chassis. The floor was a mess and a new one was really expensive so we bought a bead roller, built a brake, and built one from scratch including all the sub structure. Rollcage... same thing what we saw on the market we didn't like so we bought a tubing bender, dies, and a notcher and built one from scratch. The 305 chevy powerplant w/ SM465 4 speed trans led to other fabricating opportunities. Basically, the only thing we are using from the original 73 is the hood, axles, transfer case, radiator support, and the top of the cowl. We built a custom firewall to make some leg room. We bought new side panels and fenders, steering and suspension, other than that we have built everything else. We are doing the body work now and we hope to have it done and on the road by his 16th birthday in October.
I'm looking forward to my time on this forum. I'm sure I will learn alot. Chris |
