Hi all,

I'm Dave McCarey and I'm currently working on the restoration of a 1968 VW Beetle (so far a 12 year project) and really hoping to learn more about traditional metal shaping and to be able to put this knowledge into practice! I'm particularly interested in becoming a lot more proficient with a hammer and dolly for a start. I've tried (and failed) a number of times already but running out of panels to ruin! As I'm a stickler for quality workmanship and craftmanship, there's nothing more amazing than to see some of the shapes and finishes that can be achieved by many of the forum's members.

I look forward to taking on board the enormous collective experience on this forum and hope I can positively contribute in return.

All the best from brisbane,

David McCarey

I am staggered at the ability of the members on this site. I am sure you will pick up a lot of good ideas/information that will help feed your enthusiasm

welcome to another aircooled fan, you will pick up lots of information and lots of help from a vast array of highly skilled craftsmen.

are you restoring the bug to std or modified?

we all love pictures, don't worry if you feel they are not worthy, we all like to see the progress made by an individual
