Hello and happy New Year to you all.
My name is Rob and I live in Ontario, Canada. I’m new to the actual task of metal shaping. Up until now I have been studying books and videos to understand the techniques, how they fit together and why they work. Currently setting up a small area in my workshop and acquiring a small selection of tools. I’m anxious to see how I transition from thinking I understand the theory to actually making shapes come out right. Wish me luck. Should be interesting. I will focus on hand tools for now as best advice says knowing how things work manually will help greatly if and when I move on to machines. Can other Canadians suggest places in Canada to buy good quality metal shaping tools? My initial projects will be in .050 inch aluminum as I wish to re-create several small automotive panels originally fitted on my late 50s MG sports car. Then I’ll try my hand at a few larger projects for the same car in 18/19 gauge steel. I’m very pleased to be a part of this forum. There are more than a few excellent craftsmen already here who are very sharing with metal shaping techniques and advice. Your efforts and time spent make this forum quite unique in my experience. Thank you for helping the rest of us along. |
