Hi Rick sounds like you are ready to jump in!. Start out with some scraps of steel and learn how to shape a few sections learn how to form compound curves by hollowing and raising. Welding is an important aspect of the process but its a different ballgame from welding thick steel.

It just takes practice and it sounds like you have the right attitude.
