Intro from Glossop, Derbyshire UK newby
Hi all,
Having been a keen DIYer, cyclist and motorcyclist for more years than I care to remember, I have decided to embark on my first motorcycle restoration/modification. I have a 1994 Honda CB500, not the prettiest bike ever, but one that I already own which is mechanically sound, but cosmetically challenged.
I have decided to convert it into a street scrambler style bike. Knowing that one of the first things I wanted to do was put a new tubular loop at the back of it (slightly contrasting with the square twin spar rails) I put myself on a beginners mig welding course. Having now set myself up with a welder and tube bender, I have found that the existing seat will be unsuitable, and after market seat just don't interface with the tank. I have now decided after watching many YouTube videos to try and fabricate my own aluminium seat pan out of 3mm 1050-H14. I have bought a set of bodywork hammers and dollies and will probably make a sandbag, maybe even a metal brake to help with bending and shaping.
Any advice will be gratefully received. Wish me luck!
