Peen forming
Has anyone used "peen forming"? Seems like it might be a good tool for adding crown to a roof panel during a top chop. Although it might be a problem to have a million BBs rolling around the shop??...

I have a 200 maxstar. It has been very reliable. I would check to see if you have voltage to the gas solenoid in the machine. A dozen torx screws will allow the whole cover to lift off. Blue...

I did a butt weld also. Not as nice, so I left it there. It works pretty much the same. You just have to follow the joint. I did not have my cheaters, so that was not pretty. The wire feeder...

I finally got to do a demo the IPG Lightweld. Fabtech show, Chicago. I am impressed. I used the machine with the cleaning feature. $27k. Ouch. The pictures are my first time using this machine. ...

hand laser welding - update
I am still watching this. The IPG system still looks like the best. With a high price as well. ($16000 and up) I think everything is there now, except the budget. Purge gas is nitrogen, so you'll...

I have been watching this technology for a few years. IPG has joined the game and their system looks credible. IT also will do cleaning of metal. Magical results if you pony up the $20k for the...

Alum cracking
Back purge with argon if you can. Nice smooth back bead. Or gas weld, if you can tolerate the flux.

I have found that the blade selection is less critical if I use band saw wax. I put duct tape on the bottom of the saw to prevent scratches.

Butted tube
I have resorted to butting the tube, to prevent getting too thin or splitting. Since you have a lathe, you can make a butting tool. Basically hammering the end of the tube to make it thicker.

I have 25 foot on my old transformer machine. It pretty much just sits at the bench. My portable thermal arc has 12 ft. If the machine is easy to move, 12 is best. 25 ft of cable can be a...

My torch has a 1/4" tube. Not sure the previous thread, but as I recall it was not standard. So, I cut it off and silver brazed the adaptor. If you are up for that, I can send an adapter.

No reason that shape can't be formed on a press brake, with the right tooling. I suspect they lack the tooling. If you are using hardened Aluminum, spring back will have to be accounted for.
