New guy from Kansas
Stumbled across the site a few weeks back and thought Id finally say hello.
Originally from Iowa but now live in Overland Park Kansas which is a burb of Kansas City. Ive been to several local regional metal meets and one in Oblong back in 2006, just cant seem to find the time anymore. One of the best meets I attended was Doug Hawkins truck build, had a great time with some good people. Am a former body man who did collision repair, now I work for General Electric as an electrical engineer. Hopefully now Ill feel like going out in the garage and actually doing something. Finally blowing off the dust and getting to use that beautiful Imperial E-wheel. I like to collect old body tools, have a pretty nice collection of Porter Ferguson tools and looking forward to to seeing some of the old cool tools that some of you guys have laying around. Been working on restoring a 1949 chevy truck that my grandfather bought brand new, going pretty slow but what restoration doesnt. Most of my experience revolves around metal finishing and doing small patch panels, some day Id like to build an entire panel like a fender. Eric Elkin |
Eric, welcome to AllMetalShaping.com, glad to have you as a member. Just make up your mind that the 49 Chevy truck is the number 1 priority and get it finished. Post pictures here of your progress. How long can it take to restore a truck. Thanks for joining us.

Hello Eric and welcome to the site, sounds like you have quite a bit of experience already. It is nice to get a bit encouragement and some incentive from a site like this and then go out and make good use of it in the workshop. Please post some photos of your truck.

Welcome Eric.
I have never met Eric yet but I know he is a MM member too. Also Eric always helps out the guys at Team Chevelle when they need good sound advise from a professional body man. Eric's advise is always level headed. Its good to see you here too Eric. |
Hi Eric,
Glad to see you on line again. Welcome to the site. I learned a lot from you at Doug's truck meet. For those that don't know, Eric is REALLY good with a hammer and dolly and did some great YouTube videos on hammer and dolly work. Some of the best techniques I've seen: http://www.youtube.com/user/sevtchevelle There are 4 parts. This is the link to part 1 and the other three are on the youtube page. |
Welcome Eric. Nice to see you again! And I'll second what Kerry said. This guy knows how to make smooth out of rough, no doubt.

Guys, first off, Thanks for the kind words!
Kerry, I learned a few things from you as well at Doug's meet. David, I dont have too many pictures of the truck, pretty much right now just metal finishing the fenders. Unfortunately, my job takes up about 70 hours a week, doesnt leave much garage time. This one is about 15 years ago. The truck left family hands for a few years but I got it back, bringing her back home!! http://inlinethumb43.webshots.com/44...425x425Q85.jpg Just a random picture during the metal finishing http://inlinethumb07.webshots.com/27...425x425Q85.jpg Fender done, mostly http://inlinethumb46.webshots.com/21...425x425Q85.jpg |
That all the smoother finish you can muster up? Dang man, you're slippin! I can't make out if the tree is a maple or an oak in the reflection
