Hi from down under in Australia

Hi Guys,

My name is Terry.

Have just joined up. I live in a state of Australia called New South Wales in the Hunter Valley.I guess it's called New South Wales because its like South Wales in the UK ??

I have heaps of interests but my three main interests are car restoration ( I am an ex motor mechanic ) and I have an interest in Blacksmithing and Medieval Armour reproduction.

I have just bought a portable blacksmiths forge and some tools.I have an Attwood ( Stourbridge UK ) 207 pound Anvil and a medium size swage block.

I have not long completed a two day introductory course in Blacksmithing and am keen to learn from here on.

I have always been interested in Medieval re-enactment and in particular learning how to shape metal.

The Blacksmithing and metal shaping interest also leads to my other interest in restoring cars. As we all know cars rust, and I'd love to also learn how to shape metal to make rust patch panels to keep my restored/being restored cars on the road.

Shaping metal frustrates me. I know what shape I want it to be but lack the know how and some of the tools to do it.

Hopefully this forum can change all that for me.

Not having much of an idea on how to shape metal I'm hoping to learn as much as I can from the experience on this forum.

Well, that's a bit about me, hope you guys are ready for some stupid questions from this apprentice.:D:D:D

Cheers,

Terry.

Thanks for the replies, hope my amateur questions able metal shaping don't bug anybody. Heaps of info on this site , it'll take me a while to sift through it but at least I'm learning which is one reason I joined.

G'day Mossi,

I did my 2 day course at Wandin in Victoria last October at the Mont de Lancey Blacksmith shop there. They have 6 brick fires and a good dozen or more portables.

Learn't heaps just in the two days I was there , and the classes are always full so the Blacksmiths craft seems to becoming more popular it would seem.

There were three girls doing the course ( one was a nurse ) and they got stuck in to the work as much as us fellas did .

Good thing was there were about 9 other Blacksmiths working as well so it was great watching them with their jobs.

I'll be heading back there again this April to light up a forge.
