Intro - Fully Enclosed Rail

My name in Mike Kief and I live near Scappoose, OR

I am building a Type 1 VW component based, all steel, vehicle. It is a rain proof dune buggy that is wider (by a foot) that a Baja Bug; my goal is it will weigh less than 2,000 lbs.

To see the build diary: http://mikekief.imgur.com/

I have never shaped sheet metal before, and I will soon make floor pans from 20ga sheet. Eventually (this year) I will be bending some 22ga to fit the roll bars. I'd like to get advice on how to not make mistakes while learning.
Fabricating with light material has always intimidated me (easy to blow thru while welding for example).
