philip from wichita ks
greetings all.
a little about me. i am 37 with a wife and 3 kids. my youngest being my only son at 2 years old. i have always been interested in metal shaping but it has been limited to body work on cars. recently i decided to take the plunge into fabrication for a few reasons. 1: i've always wanted to learn it 2: i want to build a scaled down model T roadster go kart for my son and i better get started before he gets to old and 3: because i like making steel sculpture and would like to expand into sheet metal so right now i am here to learn and soak up the knowledge on the forum.. thank you |

Good evening Phillip. Welcome to the forum.

thank you for the welcome

Welcome Phillip,
Good to see a local guy interested in metal shaping. Good luck on the car for your son. |
thank you Bob. it will be a little while in the making. have to get the funds to buy some equipment and steel to learn on first.
how "local" are we to eachother? |
Start out simple, get some good hammers and make a stump for stretching and shrinking and work from there. The Yard used to have 19 gauge in small pieces like half or quarter sheets, but I've not looked lately. It was inside the steel sales building.
I'm in western butler county. |
i used to live halfway between rose hill and andover. now i'm out by park city. looked at your thread on building those hubcaps...wow!

Welcome to the forum Philip. I have a thread on here about the build of my 27 T which may help you in your quest to build a scaled down version. If you are building a '23 this is one I did for a friend many years ago..

You weren't far from me before you moved, I'm just east of Andover Road, just outside of Andover straight north of the Y. I held some meets at my shop starting around 2006, but gave up after a few years for lack of interest by others. And I started getting busier in my shop, so it got more crowed. |
