New guy from Iowa

Hello,
My name is Dan and I am out of Des Moines Iowa. I am looking to learn more about metal shaping. I have a number of toys I am always working on and have always been interested in metal shaping.

I just got my 1953 f100, flathead V8, back on the road after a frame off/ drive train rebuild this winter. I would say its 90% finished, probably never done! I built the bed and runningboards, everything except the fenders.

I spent a lot of years as a machinist and fabricator, learning to weld when I was young. My family owns a garage in southern Iowa that my dad runs, incorporated in 1903 selling Studebakers back in the day.

I am good with flat metal but want to learn how to really form. I have an English wheel that a few guys and I got together and built 3. I upgraded to an thermal arc 211i last year and bought the tig torch and foot control. Trying to get back in the groove of tig welding, I must have forgot. I have a nice little Atlas lathe and a full size Bridgeport at my dads garage. I really want to get a pullmax but I need to build a new garage first! I never see used forming equipment in Iowa so I was considering building one.

Anyway I have a 68 cutlass that I bought when I was 15, its next to be rebuild. I have a custom chopper that I plan on making new fenders and tank when I am good enough. And lastly a 1950's Sears Allstate motor scooter that I want to rebuild. It was my dads and his brothers when they were little. Its running but needs sheet metal work.

I did the same, you will be happy with the results, makes a huge difference! Hardest part for me was trying to get a power steering pump on my old flathead without sticking out like a sore thumb.

Nice install. Looks like the pump is under the fan belt.
