Cheap tool upgrades and creating a shaping station
I have added the next video in my endeavor to build and improve metalshaping tools to make them work better. I hope you enjoy my video. The english wheel is a cheap one that I upgraded and it work fantastic now!

Nice work on the improvements. Good guide for others trying to make improvements to this grade of wheeling machine. I did a similar exercise with an HF ewheel.

What was you solution to keeping there lower anvil from wiggling around?
I've been pondering a similar backbone for mine and I'd like to steady the longer anvil at the same time. |
I should have shown it in the video, but I did 2 things. I drilled a spot on the lifter shaft for the setscrew to go into tighter. This was hard to keep it aligned when I did this, but it worked. Not sure if all of these cheap ones are like this, but it was still a little sloppy, I welded a piece of half inch plate to the side that I had drilled and installed a bronze self lubricating bushing and welded a rod down from the bottom anvil holder. This made it really rigid and still smoothly goes up and down

So the first mod keeps the sliding part from wiggling and the second one fixes the anvil holder to the slider?
|
Yes, the second mod ties it to the frame
