Default Menifee Metalshapers Gathering

Thanks to Tony Sanchez's hospitality, I have been going up to his shop and working on a small fender project to get a feel for some of the various operations of metal shaping.

I have probably been taking way to long to construct this mini fender, but the vast majority of it was all new (to me) tools and processes. First time using a helve hammer, and TIG welder.

Started out with a narrow piece, and using a combination of English Wheel, helve hammer, and shrinker made the top portion of the arch. Then cut and welded in the side piece.

Did some metal finishing, cut out the wheel opening. Installed a wire edge, and put in the bead on the bead roller and in one spot where it wouldn't fit some hand chasing.

This still needs a bit of finish work, and I think that the "wheel" will end up being a clock face. I will update this as I finish it off.

Nice work, and you won't find a greater guy, or teacher, than Tony. He has been there, and done that.......!

Thanks for the compliment guys, it means a lot to me being new to this, and looking up to all of you. I couldn't have done this without Tony's tutelage and patience with me.

Hey excellent job on the mud guard, I really like the idea of it being a clock. Should look cool when you're done and doesn't matter how long it takes as long as its done!

No, no bucks were used. This was a project that Tony was planning on using at metalmeets for beginners, to give them an idea of various operations in making panels. This does not fit anything in particular, and all the curves were made to what I personally found pleasing.

I am still amazed that this was chosen for shape of the month, and can't wait to get it finished.
