Welding fumes and ventilation

I've been around welding for over 25 years. In the early days ventilation was not a concern. Now the welding industry and OSHA has studies it can have chronic affects. I have a little ventilation system that ports to the outdoors to eliminate the fumes. It's worth it.

Where I work they use speedglas respirator helmets from 3m.They work very well.I would like to get one for my shop but they are pricey.

I also use the 3-M Speedglass Adflo unit and wont let anyone even think of welding galv in the shop without it . I couldnt believe how it also circulates the air and keeps my head cooler while welding in the hot months .

I use a small electric fume/smoke extractor and place the hose close to the smoke source. The hose is about 25' long and vents directly out the shop wall. It does a nice job for what it is.... I bought it from Graingers as I recall.
