Awwww Crap! Not what I wanted to do today.
Went into my machine shop room this morning and found a surprise.
V 002.jpg V.jpg I had these metal shelves supported on 2x4's on the wall and the sheet rock screws SHEARED off. The top shelf fell and apparently knocked the lower shelf off. There was a LOT of weight on it. Didn't want to spend the morning dealing with this but I need to get all these anvils and stuff off the concrete before they rust. I'm glad this didn't happen when someone was standing beside the shelves. I'll put them up a bit better this time.

If you want fasteners with good shear resistance look for
joist hangar fasteners. Most will be nails but there are some screws available. http://www.strongtie.com/products/connectors/nails.asp# Good thing it wasn't a deck with joist hangars held in using drywall screws or roofing nails. Neither have any shear resistance and the heads pop off with the slightest load. Ron |

Shelving
Now this totally depends on where you live, but here's where I get my shelving.
Being close to Silicon Valley, there are a lot of high tech companies that grow and shrink in short periods of time. When they move, they don't want to have to deal with the old shelving. They have all new shelving put up in the new place, and they will give away the old shelving. As individuals we can't get it, but there are companies that specialize in the removal and clean out of the commercial properties. They have tons of it, for cheap. From small shelving units to pallet racks. I've standardized the shelving I use. I try to only buy shelving that will bolt together with shelving I already have.
