Default Abrasive belt seams ?

I’ve had this happen several times where a sanding belt starts to split at the glued seam. Has anyone come up with a good way to patch these ? I was thinking of trying the filament reinforced shipping tape but I really doubt it’s strong enough . ~ John Buchtenkirch

Hi John,
Google DIY sanding belts.
There are a number of youtube vidoes for making your own belts and they use different glues, perhaps one of them would work for you.

I now never buy more than about six at a time, because of old age separation.

I tried the fiber back tape, and it doesn't hold against the shear force on the joint. The adhesive never hardens enough to hold the ends together.
I'm guessing that the real tape is heated to set it.

What sort of condition is the drive drum in? Sometimes, there is wear in them and it can lead to premature failure. It's worth a look.
